TITLE: Building Technology Paraprofessional

 

RESPONSIBILE TO: Building Principal

 

SUMMARY: The Building Technology Paraprofessional provides the District Technology Specialists support in installing, upgrading, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware and software within their assigned building; provides students and staff with technology support that results in relevant learning opportunities for all students; and positively contributes to a culture that prepares “all learners for life-long success through a safe, collaborative, and innovative learning community.”

 

QUALIFICATIONS:          

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

SKILLS to perform multiple, technical tasks. The position requires that each Building Technology Paraprofessional to periodically upgrade competencies in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies include: adhering to safety practices; possessing technology skills; trouble-shooting abilities with regard to hardware and software, and utilizing pertinent software applications.

KNOWLEDGE to provide quality support to students and staff, including existing and new Dickinson Public School hardware and software. The position requires that each Building Technology Paraprofessional to periodically upgrade their knowledge in order to meet changing job conditions.

ABILITY required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: displaying mechanical aptitude; adapting to changing work priorities; establishing effective working relationships; communicating with diverse groups; being attentive to detail; maintaining appropriate focus on safety and security for data, property, and people; demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness; and working under time constraints.

 

Education:

1. Certification in technology related training preferred, but not required.

2.  Requires a good understanding of computer hardware/software applications and some knowledge of computer networks.

Equivalency:

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility may be substituted for the posted required education.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide courteous, timely, and effective on site technology support that ensures high levels of student learning.

Provide tech support to students and staff with domain accounts to help with access to shared folders, printers, and other network areas as appropriate.

Assist new staff with system and device access. (login info to device, powerschool, email, voicemail, etc.)  

Build collaborative relationships with the building staff for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining technology services and programs in an efficient and timely manner.  

Assist the District Technology Specialists with the setup of software/hardware operations for the purpose of ensuring high levels of student learning and meeting the various functions of the building staff.

Collaborate with District Tech Specialists to troubleshoot hardware and software errors, for the purpose of isolating problems, identifying solutions, and implementing solutions.

Update and maintain an inventory of building technology.

Roster students with district software and programs.

Monitor and test new technology solutions and applications to ensure that concerns are resolved while guarding to insure that implemented solutions do not negatively effect functionality in other areas. 

Provide the building staff with connecting and troubleshooting support in the use of peripherals (i.e. speakers, printers/copiers, scanners, document cameras, promethean boards etc.). Collaborate with Instructional Coaches to provide assistance and training for the building staff.

Make appropriate repairs on computers, peripherals and software to ensure that the building technology remains in a safe and functional operating condition.

Assist District Tech Specialists with running software updates. Become expert on new products, software and solutions as they are implemented in the building.

Ability to complete tasks in the daily operation of the building without direct supervision.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the building. (assistance with test administration, collecting and issuing student devices, cleaning and maintenance of student devices, etc.)

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury.

EVALUATION:                  

An annual performance review will be conducted by the Building Principal/Principal Designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Normally 175 working days (the actual number of working days may vary as determined by the superintendent). Typically working 7 - 8 hours per day depending on position / 35 - 40 hours per week/ 9 months per year- willing to be flexible and hire for shorter hours. Salary and benefits are determined by the Board of Education in accordance with the Classified Salary & Benefit Package. The salary range is $17.00-$19.50 per hour depending on experience. This positions is eligible for all benefits including health, dental, vision, life, retirement, paid leave, and holiday pay.
