Job Description:

Light of Christ is accepting applications for a Food Service Worker at St. Mary’s Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year and beyond. This position is responsible for providing students with attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and warmth.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities  

1. Assist in the preparation of nutritious meals.
2. Setup, maintain, and monitor service lines during meal service.
3. Assist in serving food in a quick and pleasant manner.
4. Keep food replenished and at a proper temperature for serving.
5. Assist in the daily cleanup of the kitchen and service areas, including mopping in the kitchen area.
6. Assist in performing major cleaning of refrigerators, storerooms, and any other areas or equipment at regularly scheduled intervals as designed by the cook.
7. Stock food, condiments, and supplies for purposes of maintaining adequate quantities.
8. Keep strict confidentiality on private matters pertaining to students and staff.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
10. Assist in organizing the kitchen for the new school year and assure all items, equipment, and serving areas are ready for use.
11. At the end of the school year, assist with thoroughly cleaning all areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous cooking experience. Previous experience with large-scale cooking and food preparation/serving preferred.
• Strong human relations skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
• Able to work in a team.
• Dependable.
• Follow required safety and sanitation procedures.
• Basic math skills for accurate measuring and recipe conversion.
• Maintain ethical behavior in all interactions.
• Mentally alert and able to follow printed and oral instructions.
• Willing to grow in the job.

Working Environment/Physical Demands

The atmosphere would include humidity, cooking odors, wet floors, and fluctuating temperatures.  Hazards include, but are not limited to cuts from knives, burns, strains, or falls. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use finger dexterity, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, bend, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds.

St. Mary's Elementary School

Monday - Friday; 8:30am to 2:30pm when school is in session
