Job Description:

Jamestown Public Schools is seeking a District Maintenance Director.
This is a full-time, salaried position (Monday–Friday) with on-call responsibilities for emergencies.

MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR
REPORTS TO: Superintendent

SUPERVISES: Maintenance and Custodial staff

SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Director is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation, repair, and maintenance of district facilities, mechanical systems, and grounds. This position supervises maintenance and custodial staff, coordinates preventive maintenance programs, and ensures that district facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained to support a positive learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required; postsecondary training in maintenance, facilities management, or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to respond to emergencies and prioritize multiple projects.

Valid driver’s license required.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
Oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment, boilers, furnaces, and associated control systems.
Perform preventative maintenance checks on steam traps, compressors, pumps, motors, and related equipment; complete repairs as needed.
Inspect and coordinate maintenance of roofing systems and rooftop units, including cleaning and notifying the Superintendent of repair needs.
Oversee repair work in carpentry, plumbing, heating, cooling, electrical, and painting; recommend outside contractors for major projects.
Manage district-wide building automation and temperature control systems.
Coordinate maintenance and repairs for district vehicles, equipment, and machinery, including mowers, snow blowers, skid steers, sweepers, and lifts.
Ensure proper maintenance and balancing of swimming pool systems, including chemical ordering and pH testing.
Coordinate preventative maintenance of the high school backup generator.
Supervision & Training
Provide direct supervision to maintenance staff; assign, review, and evaluate work performance.
Train custodians and staff on HVAC procedures, safe equipment use, and proper maintenance practices.
Develop and implement safety training programs to promote a safe work environment.
Communicate hazardous waste, asbestos procedures, and “Right to Know” information to custodial staff.
Inventory & Procurement
Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, equipment, and supplies; recommend purchases as needed.
Oversee the inventory of best access keys and ensure security of district facilities.
Authorize and manage purchase orders for supplies and equipment necessary for safe operations.
Grounds & General Duties
Oversee grounds maintenance, including snow removal, mowing, weed control, and tree trimming.
Assist with custodial equipment repairs when needed.
Perform safety inspections and accident investigations in coordination with administration.
Review building work requests (BG 100s), develop plans for completion, and track progress.
Periodically check door closures and ensure building entry systems function properly.
Planning & Compliance
Assist the Superintendent in developing an annual summer projects list for facilities maintenance and improvement.
Implement and monitor the requirements of the Energy Services Group (ESG) performance contracting agreement.
Maintain accurate records of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals used in facilities.
Support the scheduling and testing of boiler water at individual schools.
Maintain accurate scheduling and follow-up for building and grounds projects.
Other Responsibilities
Remain on call for emergencies as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
