Qualifications:
Must have or be eligible for a North Dakota teaching license in Special Education. General Strategist credential preferred.
Job Goal:
Under the direction of the school principal, the special education teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The teacher creates a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction so students can benefit from the general education curriculum with supplemental aids, accommodations, and other supports.
Essential duties and responsibilities include (summarized):
Provide direct and indirect instructional support
Complete special‑education paperwork on time
Use specialized instructional strategies
Teach academic and social‑behavioral skills
Modify general‑education curriculum as needed
Plan balanced instructional activities
Maintain a positive learning environment
Meet with parents and collaborate with specialists
Maintain records and prepare required reports
Set clear objectives for lessons and units
Support inclusive classroom settings
Provide crisis intervention when needed
Collect data for interventions
Participate in multidisciplinary teams
Prepare data for state and federal reports
Maintain professional competence
Perform related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (summary):
Understanding of instructional theory and behavioral supports
Knowledge of curriculum, human development, learning, and motivation
Ability to provide behavioral support
Understanding of special‑education laws and mandates
Ability to collaborate with staff, parents, and the community
Strong communication and human relations skills
Work Environment & Physical Demands (summary):
Frequent sitting; occasional walking/standing
Must be able to communicate clearly
May need to lift up to 50 lbs
Possible exposure to physically aggressive students
Moderate noise level
Higher‑than‑average exposure to infection

Evaluation:
Twice yearly for the first three years (Dec 15 & Apr 15)
Once yearly thereafter (Apr 15)
Contract:
188‑day teaching contract

$50,477.00 - $89,951.00 / Year
