Head Cook Pingree-Buchanan High School

2026–2027 School Year

Pingree-Buchanan School District is seeking a dependable and organized Head Cook to lead food service operations at Pingree-Buchanan High School. This position plays a vital role in supporting student health, wellness, and readiness to learn by providing nutritious, high-quality meals in a safe and welcoming environment.

Located just 21 miles northwest of Jamestown, North Dakota, Pingree-Buchanan offers a supportive rural community and a positive working environment.

Wage/Benefits:   $18-$20/hour plus Single Health included, PERS.



Other:

Primary Responsibilities Food Preparation & Service

  • Plan and prepare daily breakfast and lunch menus in accordance with USDA and state guidelines

  • Ensure meals meet nutritional standards and portion requirements

  • Prepare food in a timely and efficient manner

  • Maintain quality, presentation, and consistency of meals

Program Compliance & Recordkeeping

  • Maintain accurate production records and required documentation

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state child nutrition regulations

  • Monitor inventory and place food and supply orders

  • Assist with budget tracking and cost control

Kitchen Management

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety

  • Ensure proper food storage and temperature control

  • Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff 

  • Maintain and report equipment needs

Customer Service & School Environment

  • Foster a positive, welcoming atmosphere for students and staff

  • Promote professionalism and teamwork within the kitchen

  • Communicate effectively with administration and staff

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Previous food service experience preferred

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards

  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods
