Job Description:

Light of Christ Catholic Schools is seeking a collaborative pianist to accompany the St. Mary's Central High School Concert Choir daily for the 2026-27 school year during 3rd period class: 9:56 - 10:41am. Under the direction of the vocal music instructor, the collaborative pianist will accompany school choirs during rehearsals and concerts and assist the teacher in leading section rehearsals and concerts.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Support the philosophy of Catholic education and teach, advocate, encourage, counsel and witness in keeping with the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith and teachings.Strive to serve as a role model for students in their spiritual growth.
2. Provide piano accompaniment for choir rehearsals, concerts, Masses, and special events.
3. Collaborate with the choir director to prepare music and support vocal instruction.
4. Adapt accompaniment to suit varying student skill levels.
5. Lead section rehearsals and vocal warm-ups as needed.
6. Identify and correct student mistakes and areas of concern.
7. Provide musical assistance to substitute teachers by leading rehearsals when necessary.
8. Maintain punctuality and professionalism during all scheduled activities.
9. Keep strict confidentiality on private matters pertaining to students and staff.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in piano performance, accompaniment, and sight-reading.
• Play individual parts in closed and open score format.
• Experience accompanying vocal ensembles.
• Ability to follow conductor cues and adjust tempo/dynamics accordingly.
• Reliability and commitment to scheduled rehearsals and performances.
• Bachelors degree in music (preferred but not required).

Working Environment/Physical Demands

The employee regularly works indoors/outdoors. The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use finger dexterity. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, bend, twist, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Location & Schedule

St. Mary's Central High School; 5 days a week during choir rehearsals when school is in session; must be available occasionally for weekend concerts.
