Job Description:
Jamestown Public School District has an opening for a Head Custodian at Roosevelt Elementary.
This is a full-time position working 12 months a year.

SUMMARY:
The Head Custodian position is responsible for leading custodial operations and supporting building-level maintenance to ensure the school's facilities, equipment, and grounds are safe, clean, and functioning efficiently. This role performs preventive maintenance, minor repairs, safety monitoring, and coordination with administration and the maintenance department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge of basic HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems.
Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
Ability to operate custodial and maintenance equipment, including snow blowers and scissor lifts.
Effective communication and organizational skills.
Ability to respond to emergencies as needed.
Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and the public.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
Perform routine inspections of building interior/exterior, roofs, playgrounds, and grounds; report issues to administration and Director of Maintenance.
Complete preventive maintenance on equipment such as vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, extractors, pumps, and motors; perform minor repairs as needed.
Replace filters, check belts, motors, pumps, boilers, furnaces, and water heaters on a scheduled basis; report needed repairs.
Ensure scissor lift is used safely for high-level cleaning or maintenance tasks.
Monitor fire alarm systems, fire panels, and extinguishers to ensure proper operation.
Inspect kitchen equipment including freezers, coolers, ovens, and dishwashers; report issues.
Custodial Operations
Lead, coordinate, and support the work of custodial staff; assist with scheduling and training.
Perform emergency cleaning due to spills, vandalism, biohazards, and weather-related issues.
Maintain cleanliness of building interiors including floors, restrooms, locker rooms, windows, walls, boards, and fixtures.
Ensure custodial closets and storage rooms remain organized and free of clutter.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment for special events.
Grounds & Seasonal Maintenance
Maintain school entryways, sidewalks, and emergency exits by removing snow, ice, and debris; operate snow blowers and apply ice melt/sand as needed.
Assist with mowing, weed trimming, and general lawn care; water shrubs and plants during summer.
Check building for roof leaks after weather events.
Inventory, Documentation & Supplies
Order and maintain custodial and maintenance supply inventories.
Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals; maintain SDS documentation.
Support compliance with hazardous materials, "Right to Know," and asbestos procedures.
Coordination, Communication & Safety
Report vandalism, unruly behavior, safety hazards, and operational concerns to the building administrator.
Coordinate with contractors and maintenance staff regarding repairs and facility projects.
Assist with safety inspections, accident investigations, and staff safety training.
Support emergency planning procedures with the principal.
Assist with developing annual summer maintenance project lists.
Other Responsibilities
Ensure building security by properly opening and closing facilities and coordinating with custodians.
Raise and lower flags as required.
Perform additional duties as directed by the Building Administrator or Director of Maintenance.
Starting hourly wage for this position is $18.35 to $18.97/hour, depending on experience.
