REPORTS TO: Special Education Director, TMES Principal, and TMCS District Administration

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 - 10 months, depending on district need and approved contract terms

LOCATION: Turtle Mountain Elementary School, Preschool Special Needs Program, and other Pre-K through 5th-grade areas deemed to be in the best interest of the district

POSITION SUMMARY
The Pre-K through 5th Grade School Psychologist provides comprehensive school psychological services to support the academic, behavioral, developmental, and social-emotional needs of students within Turtle Mountain Community Schools. This position primarily serves Turtle Mountain Elementary School, the Preschool Special Needs Program, and any other Pre-K through 5th-grade area deemed to be in the best interest of the district.

The School Psychologist works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, special education staff, related service providers, families, students, and outside agencies to support early identification, evaluation, intervention, eligibility determination, behavioral support, crisis response, and student success. This position plays a critical role in supporting compliance with special education requirements, strengthening MTSS processes, and promoting a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment for young learners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide school psychological services for students in Pre-K through 5th grade, including Turtle Mountain Elementary School, Preschool Special Needs, and other assigned district programs.
Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, including cognitive, academic, behavioral, social-emotional, developmental, and adaptive assessments as appropriate.
Participate in the referral, evaluation, eligibility, reevaluation, and Individualized Education Program process in accordance with IDEA, Section 504, district procedures, and applicable federal and state requirements.
Prepare accurate, timely, and legally compliant evaluation reports, written summaries, eligibility documentation, and related records.
Interpret assessment results and provide meaningful recommendations to support student programming, interventions, accommodations, and services.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, special education staff, related service providers, and families to develop appropriate academic, behavioral, developmental, and social-emotional supports.
Support the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports process through consultation, data analysis, intervention planning, progress monitoring, and problem-solving.
Assist with the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans, functional behavior assessments, safety plans, and crisis support procedures as needed.
Provide consultation and support to staff regarding student behavior, mental health concerns, trauma-informed practices, classroom supports, and positive behavior strategies.
Participate in child study teams, IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, 504 meetings, MTSS meetings, parent meetings, and other student support meetings as assigned.
Support early childhood evaluations and services for students in the Preschool Special Needs Program, including developmental assessments and transition planning.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with student records, family information, staff, and sensitive educational matters.
Communicate effectively and respectfully with parents/guardians regarding evaluation results, student needs, programming recommendations, and available supports.
Collaborate with outside agencies, medical providers, mental health providers, tribal programs, and community partners when appropriate and authorized.
Support crisis response, risk assessment, student safety planning, and school-based mental health supports in coordination with district administration and student support teams.
Maintain accurate records, timelines, documentation, and compliance requirements related to evaluations, services, meetings, and student supports.
Promote culturally responsive, student-centered, and developmentally appropriate practices that honor the needs, strengths, and background of Turtle Mountain Community Schools students and families.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director, TMES Principal, or TMCS District Administration.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree or specialist-level degree in School Psychology or a closely related field required.
Valid North Dakota School Psychologist credential, license, or eligibility for licensure required.
Nationally Certified School Psychologist credential preferred.
Experience providing school psychological services in an elementary, early childhood, or special education setting is preferred.
Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, special education evaluation procedures, eligibility criteria, IEP processes, and student support systems.
Knowledge of child development, early childhood assessment, academic intervention, behavioral intervention, social-emotional learning, and mental health supports.
Ability to administer, score, interpret, and report results from standardized assessments and other evaluation tools.
Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, related service providers, and outside agencies.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional and legally compliant evaluation reports.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage timelines, documentation, caseload responsibilities, and multiple student needs.
Experience with MTSS, functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention plans, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive practices preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound professional judgment, and demonstrate ethical decision-making.
Must pass a background check and meet all district employment requirements.

RANGE OF SALARY: Based on the current Belcourt School District #7 Salary Schedule and qualifications
