Reports To: Building Principal

Term: Ongoing 194-day position. This position is funded through the School-Based Mental Health Services Grant and can be utilized for up to two years. Applicants hired under this grant may be rehired for the following years of eligibility.

Schedule: Mon-Fri Full-time

SUMMARY:  The School Social Worker will provide effective coordination, intervention and supports to learners and their caregivers. The School Social Worker works as a team member and advocate for the learner and their caregivers in collaboration with school personnel, community professionals, and social service agencies to connect resources and provide support to families and staff in evidence-based strategies for learner success

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)
Collaboration:
Develops positive, effective working relationships with learners and staff.
Provides resources to the MTSS team, Student Attendance Review Board (SARB), IEP team, and other educational teams to address learner behavioral or academic concerns.
Collaborates with external agencies to maintain effective communication between programs and service systems that support school staff and families.

Connects and shares ideas through appropriate/applicable formats to express thoughts and ideas with integrity.
Provides documentation and maintains appropriate records for learner referrals, caseloads and contact logs.
Utilizes effective communication skills to facilitate connection and sharing of thoughts and ideas in multiple formats with diverse audiences.
Establishes and clearly articulates procedures and routines that promote efficiency and appropriate use of time.
Utilizes questions, discussions, and dialogue that promote critical thinking about diverse perspectives, viewpoints, and experiences.

Utilizes the district protocol for maintaining information on learner progress.
Utilizes knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and learners.
Provides care and support to families as needed in the home, over the phone, and within the community.
Provides referrals and community resources to learners and families as needed.
Provides direct support to learners in the form of one-to-one and small group sessions for the purpose of mentoring, de-escalation, linking to services, relationship building, and more.

The employee will work in an environment that has a quiet to loud noise level.
The employee may be required to complete functional work in a learner's external living environment.
 
Education and/or Experience:
Licensed Social Worker in ND. Acceptable licensures:
LBSW
LMSW
LCSW
Masters Degree in Social Work is preferred.
Valid ND Driver's License and access to personal, reliable transportation.
Previous experience working with school-age children.
 
Language Skills:
Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondences in the English language.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally, expressively, and reactively.
 
Other Skills and Abilities:
Exercise confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment.
Adhere to the assigned work schedule by maintaining regular and punctual attendance.

The salary for the School Social Worker is dependent on education level. Salary follows Step C410 for a Bachelor's Degree. Starting salary begins at $29.15-$33.15. Salary follows Step C412 for Master's Degree. Starting salary begins at $29.75-$33.75.
