Education Requirements
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency

Qualifications
Background or interest in medical procedures and child care

Successful completion of UAP certification with the North Dakota Board of Nursing (NDBON) or another recognized state registry within one month of employment

Job Goal
UAPs assist registered nurses by performing delegated care activities. They support school nurses by helping students who require medical care management related to their condition or diagnosis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide care and ensure safety for students with medical needs

Perform diabetic care tasks, blood glucose monitoring, ketone testing, insulin administration, and other tasks outlined in the student’s Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP)

Follow IHP, DMMP, 504 Plan, IEP, and Emergency Care Plan (ECP)

Participate in school health team meetings

Recognize signs of adverse responses to a student’s condition

Practice standard precautions and infection control

Communicate with nurses, staff, students, and parents

Document and chart care according to school policy

Observe and record student health and behavior

Maintain confidentiality

Be available during school hours and extracurricular activities as required

Accompany students on field trips or off‑campus events

Perform other related duties, including non‑medical paraprofessional tasks as needed

Training Requirements
Attend all required in‑service and pre‑service training

Complete medication training and any condition‑specific training

Maintain CPR and First Aid certification

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Frequent sitting, walking, and standing

Ability to lift 60 lbs occasionally

Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, crawl

Must be able to hear, see, and communicate clearly

Work may involve temperature extremes and exposure to injury or illness

Evaluation
Performance is evaluated by the School Nurse and building principal.

Base Pay:  
$18.05 – $22.35 per hour
