Job Description:

Duties and Responsibilities
1. The Transportation Manager ensures the safe transportation of students to and from school.

   a. Monitors individual bus drivers to ensure they follow all road rules, including speed limits, stopping at safe distances, and using caution at all times.  
   b. Monitors individual bus driver logs and videos to ensure student safety while on the bus.

2. The Transportation Manager ensures proper fleet maintenance.

   a. Monitors work order forms, mileage reports, and daily inspection reports to assess vehicle condition.  
   b. Maintains a daily inspection log for all vehicles and buses, with service scheduled as needed.

3. The Transportation Manager provides effective student discipline.

   a. Implements a student discipline plan that promotes positive student behavior, aligns with the school-parent compact and school-wide discipline policy, and is clearly communicated to bus drivers.  
   b. Demonstrates effective bus management techniques and uses those techniques to resolve serious discipline problems.  
   c. Communicates with parents, in accordance with the student handbook, regarding student bus behavior.

4. The Transportation Manager carries out duties in accordance with local and state regulatory requirements, as well as other Bureau/Office policies, in the following areas:

   - Mandatory online reporting  
   - Diversity/EEO obligations  
   - Internal management controls  
   - Safety and Occupational Health obligations  
   - Effective management of ethics, conduct, and discipline issues  

   a. Demonstrates leadership skills that develop effective working relationships with others.  
   b. Handles difficult situations with subordinates professionally and effectively.  
   c. Promotes a safe working environment and develops solutions to problems encountered.  
   d. Manages performance, ethics, conduct, and discipline issues.

5. The Transportation Manager maintains financial accounts and reports to ensure financial accountability.

   a. Monitors financial accounts and reports to ensure financial accountability.

6. School personnel will maintain a positive attitude that supports relationship building.

   a. Greets students and staff in a friendly manner and uses appropriate language.  
   b. Provides physical and emotional support to students when needed.  
   c. Demonstrates professionalism when meeting with parents.  
   d. Contacts parents regarding appropriate and inappropriate behaviors, either in writing or by phone.

7. Is proficient with technology.

8. Participates in ongoing professional development.

9. Maintains a webpage on the school website.

10. Is on time and reports to assigned duties.

11. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Effort

1. Must be able to lift 50 pounds as needed for supplies, equipment, and other items.

2. Must be able to sit for extended periods.

Working Conditions
1. Bus and bus garage.

2. Later hours may be required for school-related functions.

Qualifications
1. Valid North Dakota driver’s license.

2. Must follow the district’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.

3. Must complete and sign a Provisional Hiring Statement.

Supervision Exercised
1. Students.

Evaluation
1. Superintendent.

2. Performance appraisal.
