Instructional Aide / Paraprofessional
TERM: 9-Month Position
Position Summary
The Instructional Aide/Paraprofessional supports students and staff in a variety of educational settings, including general education classrooms, special education programs, English Learner (EL) services, intervention programs, In-School Suspension (ISS), and other student support environments. The aide works with individual students and small groups to reinforce instruction, promote student success, support positive behavior, and contribute to a safe and productive learning environment.
Assignments may vary based on district and building needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Instructional Aide/Paraprofessional may perform any combination of the following duties:
- Assist teachers and support staff in implementing instructional activities for individual students and small groups.
- Reinforce learning of materials, concepts, skills, and behaviors introduced by teachers or other instructional staff.
- Provide academic assistance using a variety of instructional methods and materials, including technology-based instruction and educational resources.
- Support students with diverse academic, behavioral, language, social-emotional, and learning needs.
- Monitor and supervise students in classrooms, small group settings, hallways, lunchrooms, playgrounds, buses, before and after school, and other assigned areas.
- Provide supervision and support for students assigned to intervention, behavior support, or In-School Suspension programs.
- Assist students in completing assignments, assessments, computer-based activities, and other learning tasks.
- Encourage appropriate student behavior and help reinforce school expectations and procedures.
- Communicate student progress, concerns, and observations to teachers, specialists, counselors, or administrators.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials, resources, and classroom supplies as assigned.
- Assist with student assessments, documentation, recordkeeping, and program requirements when applicable.
- Escort and supervise students during transitions throughout the school day.
- Respond appropriately to student needs and refer significant concerns to certified staff or administrators.
- Promote an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment that values diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records, educational programs, and school-related matters.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents.
- Reliable and dependable attendance.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred
- Experience working with school-age children.
- Experience working in a school setting.
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning, behavioral, language, or social-emotional needs.
- Experience working with complex student behaviors.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively in individual and small-group settings.
- Ability to assist with classroom management and behavior support.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt to changing assignments and student needs.
- Ability to use standard office and school equipment, including computers, printers, copy machines, telephones, and instructional technology.
Physical and Work Environment
- Works primarily in classroom, office, and school building environments.
- May require standing, walking, bending, lifting, and supervising students throughout the day.
- May work with students exhibiting a wide range of academic, behavioral, and emotional needs.
