POSITION: Turtle Mountain Community High School Art Teacher

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: School Year 2024/2025

LOCATION: Turtle Mountain Community High School

EVALUATION: As required by NDSCC and Belcourt School District #7 policy

QUALIFICATIONS:  

A valid North Dakota Educator’s Professional License in High School Art.

Communication Skills

Shows courtesy and respect to students, parents, members of the public, and other staff members in all face-to-face and telephone communications. Has the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals; understands written and oral instructions. Has the ability to communicate clearly in speaking to students, staff, and parents. Can prepare correspondence, reports, and other written communications in final format from oral instructions or from drafts, notes, or other documents ensuring grammatical correctness and spelling. Has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written form (e.g., reports, business correspondence, newsletters, handbooks, and procedure manuals) within the school system to students and staff. Has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written form to parents.

 

Computer Skills

Can navigate using web browsers; can execute web searches and communicate via email. Understands basic file manipulation (open, edit, save, copy, cut, paste) and printing of documents. Can effectively utilize office-related applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Google Suite). Has knowledge of and ability to utilize local and network accounts. Can navigate/effectively use peripherals (e.g., interactive whiteboard, projectors, cameras, printers, pda, etc.). Possesses knowledge and ability to access and navigate web-based applications. Has knowledge or experience using students and other information systems(s).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meets with and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.

Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.

Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior, order, and procedure; maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner; strives to contain disciplinary actions within the individual classroom with only major offenses referred to administration.

Develops and maintains a classroom environment to meet the school’s curriculum objectives and North Dakota State Standards and Benchmarks within the limits of available resources.

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of (and in harmony with) curriculum goals and North Dakota State Standards and Benchmarks establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and other activities to communicate these objectives to students.

Prepares/shares/publishes lesson plans (as required by administration) to provide a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students within the parameters of the school’s vision, mission, and established objectives.

Designs and administers proper tools of evaluation which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.

Participates in Individual Educational Plan (IEP)/504 meetings as needed assisting with diagnosing, referring, and prescribing solutions to meet the academic and social needs of students with disabilities.

Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and established administrative procedures (e.g., individual student progress, grades, attendance, discipline).

Promotes and provides open communication with parent(s) or legal guardian of students through established parent/teacher conferences and/or through intermittent written or verbal contact.

Requests acquisition of appropriate supplies, books, and equipment necessary to reach instructional objectives.

Takes necessary and reasonable precautions and actions to provide for student safety and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

May assist as an advisor or coach for an organization, class, or athletic team or function as a department leader.

Monitors student progress data to ensure effective implementation of curriculum and instruction.

Provides appropriate, timely, and consistent interventions for students at risk of not making expected annual growth.

Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and established administrative procedures.

Is familiar with and abides by applicable confidentiality, privacy, FERPA, FLSA, and HIPPA regulations.

Takes necessary and reasonable precautions and actions to provide for student and staff safety and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

Will be required to perform the duties as the Gifted and Talented Instructor for Visual Arts. This will most likely occur after regular hours (typically after school or weekends)

May need to perform other duties as assigned by administration.
