Central Cass School Position Description

 

Position Title:           Elementary Teacher Grades K-4

Reports to:               Principal

 

SUMMARY:

Elementary teachers are responsible for teaching approved state/district curriculum subjects to students in grades K-4. Teachers create a flexible class environment favorable to learning and personal growth while working to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education. An elementary school teacher must keep up to date with developments in their subject area, new resources, methods and district initiatives. The role involves communication and networking with other professionals, parents and caregivers, both informally and formally.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess, or be able to acquire and maintain, proper certification as established by state law, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), and Education Standards and Practices Board certification.

Must be aware of current trends and developments in education.

Must possess related training and/or experience.

Must possess leadership qualities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned

Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.

Teaches District/State Approved Curriculum

Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.

Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to students.

Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate hands-on learning experiences for students.

Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps timely and appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.

Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Plans and coordinates the work of paras, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on fieldtrips.

Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays and exhibits of student work.

Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the students involved.

Identifies pupils’ academic needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual educations plans.

Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.

Accommodates and modifies instructional materials to meet the needs students on IEP’s, 504’s, ILP’s, etc. as required by law.

Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

Commits to the goals and objectives set forth by the district to promote a process of continuous growth using the AdvancED accreditation process.

Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Arts degree

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid ND Teaching Certificate in designated subject area

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all Central Cass policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. Ability to drive a car is required.

The environment ranges from quiet, similar to other office work environments, to loud in school convocations and at sporting events. Long hours caused by attendance at extra-curricular activities impose the need for physical stamina. Sometimes differences among school personal can be stressful requiring mental calmness, and the need for objectivity of judgment.
