Qualifications:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, or related field

Training or experience working with and securing services for children with behavioral, cognitive, social, emotional needs and developmental delays  

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

Desire to work with preschool children and have knowledge of developmental milestones

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

Support children’s social emotional development and address behavioral challenges through observation, assessment, and comprehensive support using trauma informed practices, teaming and collaboration, and staff development  

Provide comprehensive support, including appropriate strategies and follow-up with teaching staff who work directly with children experiencing mental health or behavior issues and developmental concerns

Assist teaching staff implementing behavior support plans, follow-up on implementation, and provide adjustments as needed

Measure goals and objectives of behavior support plans to ensure they are being met

Analyze behavioral interventions to determine their success

Ensure confidentiality to include behavior concerns, ChildPlus data, and files are maintained in locked cabinets

Maintain thorough knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards, specifically in Child Mental Health and Social Emotional well-being

Be an integral part of the Multi-Tier System of Supports team (MTSS), working closely with other team members to provide a multi-disciplinary approach in working with student concerns

Establish and maintain professional, accurate and timely records and documentation in child services tracking system

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk and stand. Lift sixty (60) lbs. occasionally, with the ability to reach, stand, walk, carry, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, and/or crawl. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely.  Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.  

 

Evaluation: By the Director of Head Start at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15). 

 

A teaching contract of 188 days.
