Education:          Master’s Degree in Special Education

 

 

Qualifications:   Eligible for North Dakota Special Education Director’s Certificate. Minimum of 5 years special education related experience. Educational administrative experience preferred

 

 

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Supervises programs and staff to ensure schools’ adherence to federal and state due process procedures.

Provides oversight of the special education paperwork system (i.e., TieNET).

Compiles data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of writing reports and ensuring procedural compliance.

Coordinates program components, support needs and material for the purpose of delivering services which conform to district and state curriculum and/or instructional objectives.

Attends and/or facilitates IDEA mandated student meetings when needed.

Creates and/or provides professional development to unit staff and district personnel.

Facilitates unit committees to determine special education curriculum, procedures, appropriate materials and equipment.

Participates in district-level committees to ensure alignment with regular education processes.

Attends building, district-level, state special events and meetings and shares pertinent information with relevant stakeholders

Provides assistance with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Manages the special education department in the absence of the executive director.

Facilitates conflict resolution and consensus building among various stakeholders.

Ensures that special education unit personnel are communicating and partnering with all stakeholders effectively.

Assists the executive director in developing and enhancing quality partnerships among community stakeholders

Assists in the placement of students with special needs in appropriate programs for the purpose of ensuring their educational needs are met as outlined by state and federal guidelines.

Assists with the writing, submission, and implementation of grants.

Collaborates with general education teachers, administrators, and other school staff to promote inclusive practices

Advocates for the needs of students with disabilities within the school and the broader community.

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.

 

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. 

 

Occasionally may need to lift up to fifty (50); reaching, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling within the classroom.

 

 

Terms of Employment:  230 Contract Days

Evaluation: Annual written evaluation by the Executive Director of Special Education.
