Position reports to and is evaluated by: High School Principal
Position supervises: Students, staff and volunteers

Qualifications:
· Must have a valid North Dakota Secondary Teacher License
· Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education-in subject matter
· Must pass state, federal and tribal background checks
Required Core Competencies
· Strong communication, collaboration, organizational and interpersonal skills.
· Knowledge of subject area and instructional strategies
· Ability to inspire and lead with a focus on equity, inclusion, culture and language
· Uphold standards and ethics as determined by North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board
Key Responsibilities
1) Instructional Leadership
· Teach district-approved curriculum aligned with the goals of the White Shield School
· Create a learning environment that fosters engagement, high expectations, supports student development and reflects the cultural heritage of the MHA Nation
· Set clear objectives for lessons, units and projects that align with curriculum standards and communicate these to students
· Utilize diverse instructional strategies and media to accommodate the needs of students and enhance learning outcomes
· Promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the classroom
· Develop and deliver a program of study that addresses individual student needs, strengths, interests and abilities
· Seek support from specialists and administrators when students encounter learning challenges and make appropriate referrals
2) Data-driven decision making
Assess and document students’ academics, behavior, attendance and social emotional progress using formative, summative and other assessment tools
· Maintain accurate and complete academic, attendance and behavioral student records to comply with district policies and state and federal reporting requirements
· Use assessment data to identify areas of need and strengths to develop strategies for continuous improvement and evaluation
3) Classroom Management
· Utilize and enforce a classroom management program and plan that includes setting clear, positive expectations, schedules and routines.
· Encourage students to set and uphold standards for classroom behavior, promoting respect and responsibility
· Ensure the safety of students by following school policies and procedures.
· Review, utilize and document the student handbook with students.
4) Community Engagement
· Maintain consistent and meaningful communication with parents and guardians through newsletters, phone calls, emails, conferences and other methods.
· Utilize and engage community resources, programs, elders, parents, community leaders to teach, share or help support classroom activities and projects.
· Be knowledgeable of the School’s Family Engagement Plan and carry out activities as identified.
· Participate in community activities when able.
5) Professional Responsibilities
· Exhibit and foster a positive attitude, professionalism and a commitment to the students and staff of the White Shield School.
· Communicate, collaborate and build positive relationships with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents and community.
· Develop an individual development plan that is aligned to the school improvement plan
· Perform other duties as assigned.
