POSITION: Turtle Mountain Community High School Custodian

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-months

LOCATION: Turtle Mountain Community High School

EVALUATION: As required by NDSCC and Belcourt School District #7 policy

Successful applicants must have a favorable background check according to district policy.

Communication Skills

Shows courtesy and respect to students, parents, members of the public, and other staff members in all face-to-face and telephone communications. Has the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals; understands written and oral instructions. Has the ability to communicate clearly in speaking to students, staff, and parents. Can prepare correspondence, reports, and other written communications in final format from oral instructions or from drafts, notes, or other documents ensuring grammatical correctness and spelling. Has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written form (e.g., reports, business correspondence, newsletters, handbooks, and procedure manuals) within the school system to students and staff. Has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written form to parents.

 

Computer Skills

Can navigate using web browsers; can execute web searches and communicate via email. Understands basic file manipulation (open, edit, save, copy, cut, paste) and printing of documents. Can effectively utilize office-related applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Google Suite). Has knowledge of and ability to utilize local and network accounts. Can navigate/effectively use peripherals (e.g., interactive whiteboard, projectors, cameras, printers, pda, etc.). Possesses knowledge and ability to access and navigate web-based applications. Has knowledge or experience using students and other information systems(s).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Custodian 

Answers to Lead Security and High School Administration.

Custodian will maintain safe, clean, attractive, school buildings and environment.

Observes established safety practices and procedures when working with cleaning products and equipment; follows directions on container labels and in manuals.

Cleans up after spills and other accidental events or circumstances.

Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, polishes floors, and other surfaces.

Vacuums and cleans rugs.

Washes windows, mirrors, walls, woodwork.

Sanitizes restrooms, showers, locker rooms, water fountains, etc.

Dusts furniture, fixtures, and furnishings; spot cleans as necessary.

Cleans whiteboards, chalkboards.

Collects trash, places it in proper receptacles, cleans trash containers as necessary.

Removes snow, dirt, debris, from steps, sidewalks, entryways, grounds, etc., and applies sand and/or ice melting materials as needed.

Waters plants, raises and/or lowers flag(s) at prescribed times.

Assures in accordance with building schedules that doors are locked, doors and windows are secured, lights and equipment are shut off, exit doors are clear of obstructions, panic bolts are working properly, etc.

Operates and maintains industrial-type cleaning equipment. a. Adjusts, oils, cleans, changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments in machines used in cleaning. b. Keeps cleaning equipment clean and in proper operating condition.

Reports equipment malfunctions, damage to building(s), and other items in need of repair to supervisor.

Climbs ladders and/or scaffolds as necessary to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc.

Moves supplies, furniture, equipment, etc., (setting up or taking down as necessary).

Maintains sidewalk and entry entrances from debris, snow and ice buildup as necessary.

Abides by applicable confidentiality, privacy, FERPA, FLSA, and HIPPA regulations.

Other duties as assigned by Lead Security, and High School Administration.

RANGE OF SALARY: Based on S2 Salary Schedule 2024/2025

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must meet the qualifications for the position.

Certification/Licenses: High School Diploma or GED.

Ability to stand and walk for long period of time (2 hours or more)

Ability to lift and move over 50 lbs.

Knowledge of different cleaning supplies.

Time-management and multitasking abilities.

Physical strength and stamina to move office furniture.

Organizational skills

Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrate ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must pass fitness for duty test.
